Kendra’s Bible Study…Joshua 10: 15-19

Welcome to Kendra Graham’s online Bible study.  This is a place where you can come together and share your journey towards Scriptural truths and spiritual maturity.  We pray this will be a safe, respectful, resourceful place to come and discuss God’s Word…to discover What it says…What it means…and What it means to you!

Kendra suggests you use the following process when studying Scripture.  We have included an example of this process from John 1:1.

Step 1: Pray
Step 2: Read God’s Word (look at the passage)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was
God.
Step 3: What Does God’s Word Say? (list the facts)
1 In the beginning the Word was with God and was God.
Step 4: What Does God’s Word Mean? (learn the lessons)
1 God‘s Word is not just ancient philosophy, it is eternal Truth.
Step 5: What Does God’s Word Mean to Me? (listen to his voice)
1 How do I view the Bible?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 10:15-19

FACTS: What Does it Say?
15: Israel returned to camp at Gilgal
16: These 5 kings fled and hid in the cave at Makkedah
17: It was told Joshua these 5 kings were found hidden in the
cave
18: Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave and guard
them
19: do not stay there yourselves; pursue your enemies and attack
in the rear, do not allow them to enter their cities for the LORD has delivered

LESSONS: What Does it Mean?

15. It’s good to gather together and asses the situation get feedback  and get back to  work
16. the “fearless” leaders of these cities, so  ready to destroy Israel off the face of the earth find themselves cowards  hiding in a cave.  In times of crises our true character comes out
17. You  can’t hide from God
18-19: Do not be distracted from the task at hand even if you  capture a high value target.  Stay focused on the task at hand.  Pursue those enemies.  Often times I give up the fight when God has called me to complete it.  I may say, “Ah, I have done most of it, I’m out” Do not allow the enemy to re-group, finish the task completely.

APPLICATION: What Does it Mean to me?

15. Do I realize we are in this fight together as Christians? Are we listening to one another  and getting back to work together with a common goal?
16. In  times of crises in my life, what was or is being revealed about my character?  Am I strong and courageous in the LORD, or weak and cowardly? Crises reveals my belief, what has crises revealed regarding my belief?  Has my belief and faith been proven or run from?
17. What causes me to question God sees me?
18-19: Am I living in disobedience because I have been distracted from what God has  called me to do? How have I been distracted from the task at hand?  Have I completed things “mostly” but I don’t want to put the finishing touch on it because…..? Too much
effort? Time? I’m not “feeling” it any longer?  I would rather……?  This distraction over here is more “me” and makes more sense?

Homework for July 3 discussion: Joshua 10: 20-27

4 thoughts on “Kendra’s Bible Study…Joshua 10: 15-19”

  1. Kendra,
Thank you for that encouragement! It is so easy to get distracted and not want to finish a task. I’ve been battling that recently but I know God wants me to press on.

    Facts:
V.18 Roll large stones against the cave & set men to guard.
V.19 Do not stay. Pursue your enemies. Attack their rear. Do not allow them to enter their cities. The Lord your God has delivered them into your hands.

    Lessons:
V.18 They were making sure they put an end to the kings who were causing all the trouble. There is a day of judgement coming. God will take care of our enemies on that day.
V.19 Joshua was insistant upon completing the battle to the end. He encourages his army by reminding them that the Lord has delivered the enemy into their hands.
Once again, we can trust that the battle is God’s. He will complete it up to the day of judgement. Our battles are God’s & we must allow Him to complete in us His perfect will.

    Applications:
Am I ready for the day of judgement? Am I warning others of this day? Am I trusting God to complete the battles I’m dealing with in my life, giving Him complete control, not giving up?

    Live it out:
I felt the Holy Spirit speaking to me concerning this message as I was reading in Ephesians 3:14-20. Please bear with me as I share this.
Paul gives the same kind of encouragement (or so it seemed to me at the time) to the Christians at Ephesus. First of all, he(Paul) prays to the Father “from whom the whole family is named”; those in heaven & earth. We are a part of God’s family & He will take care of us because He cares FOR US!
Then Paul prays that according to God’s riches in glory, He would grant to us to be strengthened with might. Where will that strength come from? Through His Spirit in the inner man.
Paul prays that “Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith”. Through faith we take God into our battles and He fights for us. If you’re without faith, you’re without Christ.
Paul says “we’re rooted & grounded in love” so we can be bound to one another. The deeper our roots go the more love we can spread. But not only to spread the love of Christ, but to “comprehend with all the saints” the width, length, depth, & height “to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge”. We’re in this together as saints of God & with us working together, telling our stories, sharing our pain, heartaches as well as our testimonies of God’s great love, we can & will have a better understanding of the power of Christ in us – “That we may be filled with the fullness of God”. Isn’t that our deep desire? To know Him fully?
I don’t know each of you personally, but I’m thankful that we can encourage each other through whatever battle we’re facing. We can say to each other, just as Joshua did, that the Lord has delivered the enemy into our hands.
You, as well as I do, know what enemies you’re facing today whether it be loneliness, bitterness, hard days at work, maybe no work, divorce, loved ones who don’t follow Christ, separation…..I could go on & on. But whatever it is, let’s go into battle together.
    Keep Pressing On, Ladies!

  2. Facts
    v. 15 Joshua and all Israel returned to camp
    v. 16 five kings fled and hid in the cave
    v. 17 it was told the kings have been found in the cave
    v. 18 Joshua said “Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave, and assign men to guard them…”
    v. 19 “…but do not stay there yourselves; pursue your enemies and attack them in the rear. Do not allow them to enter their cities, for the Lord your God has delivered them into your hand.”

    What does it mean?
    v. 15 The men went home. After a battle, we all just want to go back to our safety zone and refresh, unwind, and contemplate what took place in the battle and process that information.
    v. 16 Meanwhile, five kings fled from the battle and went and hid in the cave. No relaxation or sanctuary for these guys! Plus, caves are dark as is most of the sin in our lives. We tend to want to hide our transgressions and not have them be brought to life.
    v. 17 News got out that these men had been found. Our sins are always revealed. Maybe not instantaneously but they do surface and will be dealt with.
    v. 18 Joshua ordered his men to trap them in the cave by using large stones. He didn’t want them seeping through the cracks. He also wanted there to be someone there to ensure that these creatures did not escape.
    v. 19 However, Joshua didn’t want his special men to have this task. Rather, he wanted them to be able to enjoy the spoils of their labor by pursuing the others who had fled and reassured his men that they were theirs, they had already been promised the victory. He wanted the enemy to be attacked from behind.

What does it mean to me?
    v. 15 Ahh, the comforts of home! Do I appreciate the sanctuary that my home provides for me? When it is time to regroup, to refresh do I take the necessary rest to do so in order for me to be able to complete my next task? Am I obedient to the one who is in charge over me?
    v. 16 When I hear there are others still out to fight me, do I research their location and seek to understand their ways of cunning? Do I prepare myself to know my enemy thoroughly so that I am not unaware of his location?
    v. 17 When I know the whereabouts of the enemy, what is my next step? I must be in the know about the places where he hides so that I may either avoid them or be ready to tackle them head on.
    v. 18-19 What tools do I use to trap the enemy so that he cannot pursue me? Joshua told his men to put the stones there but then he commanded them to go on about their duties. Do I spend too much time dwelling on keeping my wimpy enemy imprisoned that it keeps me from doing the things I need to do—such as fight the other enemies who are out to destroy me? Sometimes I can get so caught up in tackling one sin that I let the others get away that need more addressing than the ones that are most obvious to me. It is easier to fight the little battles (such as guarding myself from worldly influences like movies, books, et cetera that don’t encourage a pure walk with my Lord and instead wrapping myself in my little world, surrounded by the “good things” such as gospel music, “safe” reading books, and little hobbies that keep my mind off of the secular stuff). What about the bigger hindrances to me? The emotional issues of family, the tougher decisions about my so-called Christian walk that others are exposed to that don’t have the luxury of hiding out with me in my pretty little purple room (my little sanctuary)?

    Application:
It’s easy to win the little battles and go home and rest, knowing that peace pervaded because small issues were dealt with without too much effort. However, when the bigger issues need tackled, we are called on to get off of our rumps and pursue them with the greater use of our skills so that the objective stays in focus. Joshua told his men to attack from behind and not let the men enter their cities. How often do I not watch my own back and then have the enemy sneak up on me? Being wary of the adversary’s tricks is helpful and allows us to turn the tables on them. Why allow this enemy to go back and plot further against me? God has said the enemy will be delivered into the Israelites’ hands. If He said it, then it is true. Are my hands open and ready to defeat what God has promised to me? Are they full of The Word so that I am prepared when the enemy has his back turned to me so that I may initiate battle and be victorious? Do I trust God’s promises enough to attack my enemy, knowing that God is with me and has given me the necessary tools to win rather than to just sit back and wait for the enemy to come to me?

  3. Hi online friends!
I have just spent the last 15 minutes scribbling notes from all three of your insights recorded. You girls!! So smart!!
Thanks for taking the time to do this ’cause it really helps me.
    FACTS:
v.15) Joshua returned to Gilgal (and all of Israel)
v.16) The 5 kings fled & hid in the caves.
v.17,18) Joshua was told that the 5 kings had been found. He told them to roll large stones up to the mouth of the cave, trapping the enemy. Guard it.
v.19) Don’t stop! Pursue your enemies. Attack from the rear. Do not let them reach their cities, for the LORD your God has given them into your hands.

    LESSONS:
v.15 Joshua and Israel returned to camp to rest and regroup. They NEEDED to recharge. We need rest also. We need to recharge in Him.We need a spiritual rest also. Not resting FROM the Word but rest IN the Word. We must retreat our thoughts to silence from the world so as to be able to do “battle” again. I think it is crucial we see God’s guidance here.
v.16) The enemy will flee from us if we do not give up. By the phrase “give-up” I mean let your guard down by allowing the “little” sins go thru unchecked and unstopped. We must follow Gods instructions (like Joshua did) then watch Him work on your behalf.
v.17,18) He used the rocks to pin in the enemy. We must use THE ROCK to pin in the enemy of our souls!! Keep up your guard against Satan.
v.19) Joshua reminded the army ” The LORD your God has given them into your hands.” He kept saying Gods words (scripture) to them to ingrain in them Gods instructions. Just like Joshua, God has told us the victory is ours too. God has given the victory to us thru Jesus!! We also know the ending to our battle…WE WIN!! We can go ahead and celebrate that now. Let us show tremendous gratitude to God for what He will do!

    APPLICATION:
-Do I return to camp and restore (in HIM)? Do I follow the “be still” command?
-Do I really believe God is fighting for me? Do my actions say different? Do I opperate in victory?
-How many times do I have to hear He has handed the victory to me before I take the fact into my soul and make it part of my belief system???
-Do I relax and take down my guard against Satan? Do I let Satan ease me into sin, by not paying attention ??

    HOW WILL WE LIVE:
The battle is God’s. PERIOD. Do I believe this? It is a choice…daily..sometimes minute by minute. I can’t forget the fundamentals, the basics. I HAVE to “be still”. It is where God speaks to me. I, desperately want to be the -real deal-. I do not want to be talk and no “do”.
Satan will sneak his way in if I let my guard down. Pay attention. Do not let the “little foxes” spoil the vine.

I am praying for all of us to carry the battle on to the finish…together.
Let’s put our foot on the neck of our enemy and declare victory!! DO NOT BE AFRAID!! DO NOT DE DISCOURAGED!!
Have a very blessed week. Robin
Kendra, Stefanie, and Kay…praying for you all this week!!

Re: The Catholic Church and the Judgment of decimating of the Holy Scriptures:
    To: Pope Benedict XVI
His Holiness, Let this request be received in your heart, mind and soul. Our Lord has chosen you to fulfill this most important and world changing act.

May the Holy Spirit be within you now.
    2 Chronicles 34:31
The King (pope) stood by his pillar and renewed his covenant in the presence of the Lord to follow and keep His commands, regulations and decrees with all his heart and soul, and to obey the words of the covenant of this book.

Knowledge comes in many ways and the wisdom to do know God and to do His will was given via the written words of those who were so divinely inspired thru the Holy Spirit. The early church recognized that the gospels and books were in fact God’s word and His speaking to us so that we can seek, ask , be answered and receive His gift of salvation, abundant life here and now and then eternally.
As declared in your Niacene creed; “We believe in one God. Creator of heaven and earth. Of All things seen and unseen”
How is it then that your church decided what words be seen and what is not to be seen?
Religious freedom is a sacred trust. And by the unrighteous censoring of the Holy Bible, the Marcian, then Nicacene and Constantinopolian councils violated a sacred trust between God and man. This injustice infringed on our religious rights to know God‘s word in it’s entirety as it was gifted to us , divinely thru the Holy Spirit .
The purpose of these scriptures was and is for humanity to come to know God and to do His will by imitating our Lord Jesus Christ and for our salvation.
Such sin, as defined by your doctrine is mortal. [L.Reverum Noverum]. As the intention of this was self serving and deceitful.

    1 Corinthians 2: 4-10

“My message and teaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age (the church), who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of a secret wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, it is written; : NO eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those that love Him. But God has revealed to us by His spirit”

    The word (logos) is Christ.
And the Word became flesh died and rose again for One reason. That is to bring to the new covenant. By decimating His Word of Life, you deny Christ His message to us.
For He so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son to bring the Word of Life- the new covenant which is the good news of new and everlasting life. His greatest and only desire is to have His children spend eternity with Him. This is the ultimate heresy against God Almighty ever.

Know this. Despite making these sacred works unseen,
it did not stop the Truth from being true. as we are now in the age of revelation. Those seeking shall find, those asking will be answered.
    John 8: 31
Jesus said, “If you hold to my teachings, then you will know the Truth and the Truth will set you(them) free.”
Answer for this condemnation in restoring The Holy Scriptures to it’s entirety, you can purify the church of it’s transgression.

    Time is of the essence.
The end times are upon us. The signs are many.
Israel has attained it’s sovereignty (1947) and Palestine is soon become it’s own state. .
Jews are finding the Messiah they have been awaiting, in Christ Yeshua and are accepting Him as their Lord and Savior.
The end of the catholic church age has come.
The world is merging into one global economy..
The “lost” books and as well as relics (Boat of Galilee, and Bethlehems marker stone have recently been found.
The phenomena of natural(unnatural) disasters happening globally.
    John 8:42-44
Jesus said to them; “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and now am here. I have not come on my own, but He sent me. Why is my language not clear to you? Because you are unable to hear what I say. You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your fathers desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no Truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies. Yet because I tell the truth, you do not believe me! Can any of you prove me guilty of sin? If I am telling you the truth, why don’t you believe me? He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”

Reveal the “lost” books, publish and distribute to every church world wide.
    God asks this of you.
For 12 years, beginning 12/21/12 each church is to freely distribute the number of the Books as there are people within that province and to make available to anyone who asks the restored Bible . this is to be done worldwide.

    For…
    John 8:32
He who does not keep His commandments is a liar and the Truth is not in Him. He who keeps His commandments thru
the love of God imitates Christ.

As you know the greater the transgression , the greater is His grace.
He will forgive the church upon your confession and in making the Holy Book whole..
The power the glory are His.
    Rev : 22: 18-21
I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this Book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes away from this Book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. He who testifies to these things says, ”Yes I am coming soon” Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people” Amen.
    It is finished.
    Respectfully,
    A malak from Brooklyn.
