Kendra’s Bible Study…Joshua 23: 12-15

Welcome to Kendra Graham’s online Bible study.  This is a place where we can come together and share in the journey towards Scriptural truths and spiritual maturity.  We pray this will be a safe, respectful, resourceful place to come and discuss God’s Word…to discover What it says…What it means…and What it means to you!

Kendra suggests you use the following process when studying Scripture.  We have included an example of this process from John 1:1.

Step 1:  Pray
Step 2: Read God’s Word (look at the passage)
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Step 3: What Does God’s Word Say? (list the facts)
1 In the beginning the Word was with God and was God.
Step 4: What Does God’s Word Mean? (learn the lessons)
1 God‘s Word is not just ancient philosophy, it is eternal Truth.
Step 5: What Does God’s Word Mean to Me? (listen to his voice)
1 How do I view the Bible?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 23: 12-15 homework

WHAT DOES IT SAY?
12-13:  If you EVER go back and cling to these nations which remain among you, know with certainty the LORD your GOD will NOT continue to drive these nations out.  They will be a trap, a whip to your sides, thorns in your eyes

14:  (Joshua speaking)  I am going the way of the earth, and you KNOW in your hearts and soul NOT ONE WORD which the LORD spoke concerning you has failed.

15: Just as all the good words the LORD spoke to you have come upon you, so the LORD will bring upon you all the threats.

What Does it Mean?

12-13: DO NOT COMPROMISE.  DO NOT COMPROMISE.  DO NOT COMPROMISE.  We compromise with sin because our “common thought of the nation” says we should.  God says, “Thou shall not commit adultery”  it is now, nationally, a “consenting relationship between adults”  God says, “You shall have no other gods before Me”, yet we are in the process of writing Him out of our nation’s history.  God says “Thou shall not covet, Thou shall not steal” today we claim, “But it’s not fair”, “I am entitled”, “It doesn’t matter how I get it” or  “It doesn’t matter how I climb the corporate ladder, who I maim, smear or hurt along the way, so long as I am happy, and achieve my goal” Our motto: “Look out for number 1”.  God says, “You shall not take the name of the LORD in vain”, we say, “I have a right to express myself, it’s my freedom of speech”.  To protect the name of God Almighty in society, however, has become hate speech, and judgmental.  God says, “You shall not bear false witness”, we say, “Truth? Truth is relative, gray, it’s how I see it, there is no set Truth standard”.  God says, “Thou shall not murder”: We have renamed it “The Right to Choose” or “The Right to Die with Dignity”.  A nation of compromise.  Let’s not be families of compromise.

We have been challenged as God’s people not to compromise…. yet now, we cannot even display the Standard of Truth (God’s Word, 10 commandments) because God Himself has been labeled “offensive” to society.  We would rather not “offend” anyone so we trade in our God, our shield, our refuge, our strength, our help, for the status quo of common thought.  We choose not to live lives with the evidence of the very presence of God in our midst.

14: God’s Word is Truth.  In a world where we can’t find honesty, the truth is as elusive as ever, where it is easier to believe a lie because it doesn’t hurt so bad and there is less accountability… God’s Word is proven time and time again, from one generation to the next.  Joshua lived a life without regrets, faithful to the LORD Jehovah and His Word.

A life lived for God, according to the Truth of His Word is a life lived without regret.

15: God is a God of His Word.  We live in a world where no one is accountable, we all have an excuse or another person to blame for our own choices.  God loves His people enough to discipline them.  Discipline is not hate, discipline helps guide and form us.  When my parents disciplined me, it was because they loved me and because of their consistent “guiding” I am thankful.  We serve a God who loves us enough to keep His Word on both sides of the issue. The way I choose to live me life matters to God.

What Does it Mean to me?

12-13:  Am I living a compromised life more worried about societal reaction and dictation than my very soul and my God?  Am I living my life clinging to what the nation(s) say is right, wrong and acceptable, worldly arguments compromising God’s Word, or am I sold out to the God Who loves me, gave His life for me and Who is the Way, the Truth and the Life?

14: Am I living my life according the Truth of God’s Word, or the truth the world has thrown at me to believe?  How has God been faithful to me? To you?  How has the Truth of God’s Word steadied me in shaky times?

15: Am I in God’s Word? Did I realize my choices on how I live my life matter to God?  When have I been thankful for godly discipline in my life?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 23: 8-11 homework

WHAT DOES IT SAY?? The Facts

verse 8HOLD FAST to the LORD your God.
Verse 9The LORD has driven out before you powerful nations
Verse 10:  The LORD your God fights for you as He promised
Verse 11BE VERY CAREFUL to LOVE the LORD your GOD.

What does it Mean?  LESSONS

Verse 8Joshua is pleading with the people, HOLD FAST, refuse apathy.
It is in us to turn, to let go and to follow anything and everything but God.  HOLD FAST.  DON’T LET GO.  When things are falling apart and the only hope you have is that God will come through and be faithful to His Word, HOLD FAST!   When things are going well, and we have had victory after victory, and our feet are steady beneath our feet, we still must make that difficult and conscious decision to HOLD FAST the LORD our God.  HOLD FAST.  HOLD FAST.  Be steady in our walk.  Faithfulness is our goal, faithfulness is our daily choice. Choose well.
Verse 9Remember what God has done for YOU.  Remember from what God has saved you.  Tell your children, your grandchildren.  REMEMBER.  We say that we will never forget, but honestly, we forget so easily.  If you cannot recall a personal testimony of what God has done in your life, pray, ask Him to reveal what He has done in the past, that we may have forgotten, or pray and ask God what personal testimony it is that He wants me to have.  God is faithful to His Word and God is the One who does the work.  We who are simply jars of clay get to see what He’s doing up close!  Lord open my eyes to see Your mighty works in my life!
Verse 10When we choose to go to God’s side, when we choose to do things His way, we see that it is He who does all the fighting.  We see He is our shield.  We see He never leaves us or forsakes us.  We see that He lifts us up.  We see He is faithful to His Word.
Verse 11Be very careful to love the LORD.  This passage — verse 8 — starts with the phrase “Hold Fast” and as I see it, here in verse 11, it ends with the same phrase.  Staying faithful to God is a choice, and it is hard.  Distraction is oh so easy.  Excuses and rationalization about why we don’t study His Word and pray come out like water.  LORD help us stay true to You, so that what flows from our heart and lips are all the ways You have shown us YOU and Your mighty works!!

What Does it Mean to Me? APPLICATIONS

Verse 8: What or who am I holding on to?  Have I drifted away from my LORD?  In crises mode, often, the LORD is all we have, but what about when things are ok?  Do I loosen my grip?  Am I making that daily decision to come, open God’s Word, and allow it to continue to change my life?
Verse 9: What impossible situation has God taken in my life and showed me His great power?  When has God driven out before me things that seemed to great and powerful for me to conquer?  A difficult relationship that was mended?  A boss that was unreasonable?  A co-worker who tried to run me over?  A disease that tried to kill me?  A circumstance or past decision that tried to define me?  How has God broken chains in my life and how am I remembering the greatness of my God in overcoming it?
Verse 10Am I so tired trying to fight the powers that be?  Am I ready to go to God’s side, ask Him how He wants it done, then pray for the strength to obey?  When has God fought for me and showed me that His Word is true and it will be true even for me?
Verse 11:  What do my current priorities say about the importance and love for God that I say I have?  Are there distractions in my life that need to be dealt with? Is there proof of the love of God in my life, or is it just a nice “churchy” catch phrase?

1 How do I view the Bible?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 23: 3-7 homework

Facts: What does it say?
v. 3  You have seen all that the LORD your God has done, He has been fighting for you.
V.4  See, I have apportioned TO YOU these nations which remain as inheritance, nations from the Jordan, to the Great Sea, to the setting sun.
v.5 The LORD will thrust them out, & drive them from you; you will possess their land as the LORD promised
v.6 BE very firm.  Keep and DO ALL written in the law of Moses, so you don’t turn right or left.
vs.7  So you will not associate with these nations, mention, serve or bow to their gods.

LESSONS.  What does it mean?
v.3  God is faithful to His promises and His people.  When God works in our lives, and gives us a testimony of His great power, we need to cling to that and set our hearts not to forget what He has done.
vs. 4  God has victories for His people to claim.
vs. 5  God calls us to do things that only He can accomplish.  When God calls us, there is always a gap between what we can do and what God must do (Crawford Lorrits).  This gap is where obedience is a must and our faith will be tested, but God will be glorified on the other side! BELIEVE IT!
vs. 6  Be FIRM and DO ALL…  Faith is a verb.  Faith becomes real, personal and tangible when we put to action and obey the God we say we believe in.  We obey with action, not just words. We cannot be a people of a great faith without being a people of great obedience.
v
s.7 Bank tellers do not train with counterfeit dollars so they can pick out the false currency, they train day after day with the real deal, so when the fake comes along, it’s obvious & easy to spot.  We need not fill our minds with learning the intricacies of all other ideas and religions of the world, we need to fill our hearts and our homes with the very Word of God, the TRUTH, day in and day out, so when a counterfeit comes along, it’s easy not only for us to spot, but our children as well.

APPLICATION: What does it mean to me?
vs.3  Do I live my life upon the fact that God will continue to be faithful to His Word and faithful to me?  How has God been faithful to me in the past?  Do I need to cling to that for the present?
vs.4  What victories does God have for me to claim?  Do I choose to live in defeat over the victory God has given?  Perhaps I have not claimed the victory because I don’t want to show up to the battle God wants me to face?  (God gave Jericho to Joshua before the battle ever began, but Joshua still had to obey and show up on site! Joshua 5-6)
vs.5 What has God called me to that He must do? (Not where have I called myself to, or where I would like to be, or where I think I deserve to be, or where it is logical for me to be, this is God centered not me centered)  Have I spent time in God’s Word and asked Him?vs.6  Is it now that God is asking us to ACT upon those beliefs we have said for years that we so strongly believe? What would it look like if we as Christians actually lived out in real life what we say we believe in our hearts?  How will I begin to implement godly obedience in my life?
vs.7  Am I more concerned about the gods of this world and not offending anyone than I am with knowing the Everlasting God, the LORD Jehovah and the Creator of Heaven and earth?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 14:12-15 homework

FACTSWhat does it say?
v12: “Give me this hill country, Anakim (giants) were there, fortified cities”  The LORD will be with me, and I will drive them out as the LORD has spoken.
v13. So Joshua blessed him and gave Hebron to Caleb.
v14. Hebron became Caleb’s inheritance because he followed the LORD GOD of Israel FAITHFULLY.
v15.  The land had rest from war.

LESSONS: What does it mean?
v12.  God calls us to HARD, TOUGH things that are too big for us…. thus we need him.  Caleb knew the character of God, knew what God had called him to and then BELIEVED GOD by acting on that faith.  FAITH IS A VERB (an ACTION verb).  WE DO, because we believe.  Caleb believed God and took Him at His Word.
v13.  By faith the blessing was received on the front part of the battle.  Because of the faith of Caleb, he was blessed.  Acting on faith results in blessings from God.
v14.   Faithfulness to knowing God and obeying God will always end in a life blessed by God. Caleb’s testimony to a life of faithfulness: It’s WORTH it! BELIEVE GOD! His Word is True and faithful!
v
15. When we battle though those daunting times, when we want to walk away from our faith completely, but don’t makes the times of peace that much more of a blessing.  Hang in there, hold on, press in, the King of Peace is coming. (Revelation 21:3-7) It is worth it! Praise God we can hold on through the tough times of trial and tribulation because Jesus overcame the the world!  John 16:33 “These things I (Jesus) have spoken to you SO THAT IN ME you may have PEACE.  In the world you HAVE (not may have, or might have, but HAVE) TRIBULATION but TAKE COURAGE, I have OVERCOME the WORLD!”  AWESOME.  We never want the testimony, the hardship, the struggles that God has entrusted us with… but God has indeed entrusted them to you so that you may hold on because we can… we can hold on because of what Jesus has done for us, and others need to see our peace in the midst of it.  Courage in the midst of it.  The battle in the midst of it… so at the end, when times are peaceful we can shout and share what God has done through the midst of it.

APPLICATIONS: What does it mean to me??
v12.  What “Anakim” (giants) in my life am I facing now?  Do I constantly look for the easy way out, thinking that because I love Jesus the hard stuff will float past me?  When have I believed God through a tough situation, and held on by the skin of my teeth only to find that indeed God was more than enough?  What situation am I facing now that makes me want to run and hide from my faith?  What will I do? Stand or fall? Fight or flee?
v13.   What am I believing God for? (my marriage to improve, a wayward child to come home, a disease to be contained, my economic needs to be met? Support to be raised?)  What blessings are right there for the taking if I just really lived my life believing God really is who He says He is?
v14. Who do I know that has led a faithful life to God?  What is their testimony?  How will I live today in faithfulness to God and His commands?  Tomorrow? The day after that?  Will I start to live a life of faithfulness today?
v
15.  “And they overcame because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony” Revelation 12:11

What is my testimony someone needs to hear?  What do I have to press into so that someone else can come to Jesus?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 11:15-20

The Facts
What Does it Say?

15.    The LORD commanded Moses, Moses commanded Joshua & Joshua did. He left NOTHING undone that the LORD commanded.
16-17.  Joshua took that land, captured their kings, struck them & put them to death.
18.   Joshua waged war a long time.
19.     There was not a city which made peace except Gibeon; they took them all in battle.
20. It was the LORD to harden their hearts & meet Israel in battle, that He might destroy them, they received no mercy just as the LORD commanded

The Lessons.
What Does it Mean?

15.     Be very careful to instruct what the LORD says (not what I think).  Be very careful to do ALL the LORD commands… not just what I think is pertinent. (How cool would it be, to have this said about you and me? That we left nothing undone that the LORD commanded?!) hmmmm so much to chew on here.
16-17.  Joshua lived a life of faithfulness, proven by obedience.  Faithfulness is gained      through obedience proven day in and day out… and cannot be measured until the end.
18.   Joshua battled day after day, week after week, year after year for the same thing.. until he was old and gray.  How many times must he have been tired of the battle set before him, yet again….(did he ever say … ug… here we go AGAIN?)  We all want instant gratification; however God does not work on our timetable, we work in His.  Victory is won as we press in and press on today…. and tomorrow… and the day after that….. don’t get frustrated when things don’t resolve immediately, stay faithful… hang on to the promises of God’s Word and character.  Don’t give up. It’s not the end result of the activity we yearn for, it is faithfulness to God in spite of results, that is what we strive for! Focus on being faithful.  Tough stuff my friends.
19.     The world is not intent on making peace with God as much as they are at making war with God…. (listen to the media on any given day.)  Everyone must make a choice to be for God or against Him. There is no gray area. But there is a choice.
20.    There is a time for everything, a time for grace and mercy, and a time for judgment and righteousness.  God’s character is proven on both sides of the matter.  God is glorified in Israel, and Gibeon, showing that He is full of grace and mercy, and God is holy and perfect, glorified in His right judgment and righteousness displayed to the other nations who were destroyed.  God’s character is proven no matter what.

Applications.
What does it mean to me?

15.     Am I listening to LORD and what He wants, or am I trying to get the LORD to listen to me and accomplish what I want?  Where has the LORD called me today?  Will I live today in obedience to what I have been instructed?
16-17.  Is faithful obedience an objective in my life? Why or why not? Is it obvious to others?
18.    Do I give up if things don’t seem to be going my way or the way I think they should go? Will I continue to trust God to work all things out for my good and His glory, day in and day out?  Will I continue on in spite of being battle weary trusting God to “strengthen those who wait upon Him?” Isaiah 40:31
19.     What have I chosen? Have I chosen to make peace with God by trusting Jesus as my Savior? Or… Have I chosen to stay at odds with God?  Do I realize God has made a way to have peace with Him through Jesus?
20.   How will God be glorified in my life?  Will I accept His grace and mercy?  Will I opt for His judgment and wrath?

** God loves you.  God loves you so much, and wants to display His grace and mercy to you with His whole Being.  God proved this love by coming to earth in the form of a man, that man is Jesus.  Jesus lived a perfect life, not sinning (doing wrong) one time.  Jesus had to be perfect, not one sin is allowed in heaven. We must be as perfect as God to enter…. not “good enough” …. but PERFECT.  None of us are (Romans 3:10,23).  Jesus was perfect, so, being perfect, offered Himself as the perfect payment for us, where we fail.  Jesus died on the cross, shed His blood, so the wrath of God would be satisfied.  God took His wrath out on Himself on the cross, protecting us! Then 3 days later ROSE from the grave (I Corinthians 15:3-4)…. Jesus did this so He could show His mercy to us.  All we have to do is accept it. “For the wages of sin is death, BUT the GIFT of God (Jesus) is eternal life. Romans 6:23.  If you have never accepted this gift of forgiveness, take time now to ask it of God. Romans 10:9-10 “that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation.” All we have to do is ask for God’s mercy and forgiveness.  God holds true to His Word.  Accept His grace and mercy while it is offered.  “Now is the day of salvation.” II Corinthians 6:2. The choice is yours. How will you choose?

Kendra’s Bible Study… Joshua 11: 1-9

Welcome to Kendra Graham’s online Bible study.  This is a place where women can come together and share their journey towards Scriptural truths and spiritual maturity.

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 11:1-9 homework (vs. 4-6 selected)

Facts:
11:4: they came out w all their troops, a huge army (5) all these kings joined forces together. (6) the LORD said to Joshua “Do not be afraid of them because I will hand all of them over”

Lessons:
4-5: when you are doing the right thing, making a stand, obeying God and His Word the world will join forces against you to bring you down. (just look at the grilling Chic-Fil-A is getting, yet as they obey through the fire, God is blessing them)

6: God gives us constant encouragement. How many times has God repeatedly told Joshua that He was with him? God will help and encourage us along the way as often as need be, God knows we are prone to fear and discouragement. Keep obeying. Keep walking. Keep your eyes on Him and in His Word being careful to do all He has commanded.

Applications:
4-5: when have I made choices to follow through and obey God only to be met with opposition either from people I expected it from or people who were supposed to be on my side? Did that shake my faith or solidify it? What was my response inwardly and outwardly to the opposition?

6: How has God sweetly encouraged me through His Word when I was really questioning what He asked me to do? Do I seek to hold to God’s promises during hard times of opposition or do I give in, throw my hands up, and say “it’s too hard?”?  What has God asked me to do? How have I made a stand? What stand is God asking me to make now and not to be afraid?  Do I encourage those who I see making a stand in the face of ungodly opposition?

LIVE it OUT:

Be proud of the God I serve. Be firm on the stances that God’s Word clearly states. Ask God to give me the strength to stand against an ungodly harsh critical world.

Share with us your lesson(s) and applications and what they mean to you.

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 10:28-43

What does it Say? Facts:
28-39: Joshua captured Makkedah, destroyed it. Passed on to Libnah, left no survivor. Passed on to Lachish, captured it on the 2nd day and struck every person. The king of Gezer came to help Lachish and Joshua defeated him and his people. Joshua passed to Eglon, and utterly destroyed every person. Joshua went to Eglon, captured it and struck it and utterly destroyed it. Then Joshua returned to Debir, and utterly destroyed it.
40: Joshua struck all the land, the hill country of Negev, left no survivor, just as the LORD the God of Israel commanded.
41: Joshua struck them from Kadesh-barnea as far as Gaza and all the county of Goshen
42a:  Joshua captured all these kings and their lands at one time
42b-43: …. The LORD the God of Israel fought for Israel.  So Joshua and all Israel with him returned to the camp at Gilgal

What does it Mean? LESSONS:
28-39:  God gave Israel the land. Just as He promised.  God’s Word is true, and proven in the lives of this Israel…. and it has been written down so we can read the words of their testimony of the greatness of God and the power of God and the faithfulness of God to His Word!
40-41:  The cities were defeated, amazingly without a single loss for Israel! Each battle was a test, none of them easy….. yet ALL were victorious.  God does not call us to easy things.
42:  As we read…. Joshua captured one city after another, traveling along the south and in the hill country.  The cities were in different locations, fought on different days.  Battles are won, ONE at a time.  Often we want it all at once or not at all.  The temptation for exhaustion and discouragement was always at hand, just like God told Joshua from the beginning, “Don’t be afraid, be courageous, don’t be disappointed or downcast” keep going.  Often the next battle is two to three times the size of the previous one, and I find myself saying, “Oh, I just can’t, I’ll just settle to live with what God has already done for me in the past…”  KEEP GOING!!! The next battle will be bigger, and harder, and tougher, requiring more strength that I don’t have and courage that I can’t find, and I’ll be tempted to be discouraged before I even start….. BUT MORE GLORY TO GOD at the end… MORE glory to God, more glory to God……  God does not call us to things so He can push us off a cliff to our death, He calls us to things that ONLY HE CAN DO… there is ALWAYS A HUGE GAP God calls me to do something, and the gap lies in the fact of what I can do and what God MUST DO… that gap is called FAITH and OBEDIENCE and it is NEVER easy, but ALWAYS WORTH it!  “Have I not commanded you to be STRONG and of a good COURAGE BE NOT afraid neither be DISMAYED for the LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU wherever you go!” Joshua 1:9  PRAISE GOD for His faithfulness, His omnipotence and His Word!
God knew which battles to fight and when to fight them.  Be careful not to get ahead of God. Go where He leads, when He leads.
42b:  God is the One who leads.  God is the One who empowers.  God is the One who fights. God is the One to Whom the glory of victory goes.  I don’t have the strength to fight, but the great thing is,  God is just asking me to stand.  STAND.  STAND with that GAP of what God MUST to for the victory… just STANDING will take courage and strength.
43: Israel always returned to that place where they first consecrated their lives to following hard after God in all they did.  May I never forget when God came in to my life and just invaded it with His awesomeness…. before all my questions could be answered, before all my doubts were secured, God grabbed a hold of me and changed me, how can I not be affected by the demonstration of His love when He came down in the form of a man, Jesus, and died for me?  Oh the deep deep love of Jesus.  Remember where it all started!  Don’t forget!  Remember!!!!

What does it Mean to me? APPLICATIONS
28-39:  What causes me to doubt God will be faithful to His Word when it comes to me?  Will the testimony of my life prove the faithfulness of God’s Word?  When have I taken God at His Word? How has God been faithful to me?  Has God ever not been faithful to me, and if so, have I brought that discrepancy to the throne of God and really sought Him out on it in His Word, or am I not willing to do that, because…. well…. I’m right, and that’s that?
40-41: Has God called me to stand somewhere that I just don’t think I have the faith for?  Do I think it is easy for people like Joshua, and Billy Graham, and Bill Bright to have faith?  How is God trying to stretch my faith and trust in him?
42: Am I impatient and want God to give me all the victory here and now, today as I stand?  How has discouragement tried to seep into my life and steal the victory from me before the battle is even fought?  What Has God called me to do?  Am I willing to follow where God leads, or would I prefer God make my way clear as He follows and fixes the path I am blazing on my own?
42b:  Where has God asked me to stand?  Do have the courage to stand?  Have I ever stood where God asked me stand and said what God asked me to say?
43:  How have I been tempted to forget what God has done for me?   How have I seen the deep deep love of Jesus demonstrated in my life? Have I written down or told someone of what God has done for me?

1 How do I view the Bible?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 10:20-27

What does it say? THE FACTS

20.   When Joshua and Israel finished slaying them and the survivors who remained entered the fortified cities,
21.   all the people returned to camp in peace, no one uttered a word against Israel
22.  “Open the mouth of the cave, and bring the five kings out”
23.   They did so: The king of Jerusalem, Hebron, Jarmuth, Lachish & Eglon
24.   Joshua called for all men of Israel, and said to the chiefs who had gone w/ him”Put your feet on the necks of these kings” So they came near and put their feet on their necks
25.  Joshua said, “Do not be afraid or dismayed, be strong and of a good courage, for thus the LORD will do to all your enemies.
26.  Afterward Joshua struck, killed them and hanged them on 5 trees until evening.
27.  So it was at the going down of the sun Joshua commanded & they took them down, cast them into the cave where they had been hidden and laid large stones against the cave’s mouth

What does it Mean? THE LESSONS

20-21: When the power of God has been revealed (to believers as well as non-believers) there is nothing to say that we could possible add.  (EVERY knee will bow, every tongue will confess that Jesus is LORD!)
22-24: These kings went against God and His people with all they had, it is hard sometimes for us to wrap our brains around an all merciful God and an all righteous and just God, we like to focus on the mercy, don’t we?  There is a time for EVERYONE to receive God’s grace and God’s mercy, and that time is NOW! NOW is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2)! If you have ears to hear, HEAR!  Because there is a day coming, when time will run out…. your decision is NOW.  The Canaanites and Amorites, and all the other “ites” had year after year, decade after decade to repent, and stop the wickedness (Genesis 15:6)…. until God said enough is enough and their wickedness was complete, and God went before Israel like a consuming fire and destroyed these nations that were mightier than Israel.  Did God give Israel the land because they were so good?  No, God gave Israel the land because Canaan was so wicked, and because of the Righteousness of God’s character, not the righteousness of Israel’s character (Deuteronomy 9). God loved the people of Canaan, and was patient and long suffering waiting for them to come to repentance. In Romans 1 Paul talks about not having an excuse, because if you see one sunrise you should know there is a God, but the people of the land became more depraved, and deepened in their wickedness, and the result, the consequence of sin is always death.  Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death.”  God means what He says.  Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned BUT the GIFT of God is eternal life!.”  Yes, there is hope!!! The GIFT of God is eternal life, a life raft! Well what is the gift of God? Is it possible for you and I to attain this gift? YES! John 3:16, “For God so LOVED the world that He GAVE His only Son (Jesus) that whosoever BELIEVES in Him will have everlasting life!” The gift of God is Jesus! Romans 10:9 “If you confess with your mouth the LORD Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved!” 2 Peter 3:9, “The LORD is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward YOU, not wishing for ANY to PERISH but ALL to come to repentance”

GOD IS MERCIFUL, AND GOD IS JUST.

25: Joshua remembers what God has said in His Word, and encourages the nation.  God is faithful to His Word, and Joshua is living by it.  The things God calls us to do are hard, we will be tempted to run, hide and be discouraged.   I must remind myself who God is, not who I am.
26-27:  The very thing these kings thought would be their shelter was their grave.  Be careful what I put my faith in, if it is anything other than Jesus, I will come up short.  The stones piled up in front of this cave, this grave, are a good warning to you and me… don’t delay in repentance to God! John 14:6, “I (Jesus) AM the Way, the Truth and the LIFE no one can come to God, but through Me.”

What Does it Mean to Me? THE APPLICATIONS

20-21:  When have I seen God work in mighty ways and been speechless about what He has done, either for me or someone else? (If the answer for this question is never… read the stories of Hudson Taylor, Amy Slessor, Bill Bright, Jim Cymbala) there are countless others on the testimony of God’s amazing power that will leave you and I speechless!
22-24: Has there been a time in my life when I have personally repented of my sin and asked for the forgiveness of God that is available because of Jesus?  Or am I living my life in direct opposition to God, thinking I have plenty of time to make things right before the end?  Do I realize and know that God loves me and His plan for me is not destruction and punishment, but love and acceptance if I will just humble myself before Him?  Do I need to stop here and NOW and ask God to forgive me?
25:  Am I in God’s Word enough to remember His promises and challenges to me?  Do I believe God is who He says He is and will do what He says He will do?
26-27: Who or what do I put my faith in to provide for my safety, my needs my assurance for the future?  A job? A spouse? A talent? My charity? The good stuff I do? Only Jesus is our assurance!

Step 5: What Does God’s Word Mean to Me? (listen to his voice)
1 How do I view the Bible?

Kendra Graham NOTES from Joshua 10:15-19

FACTS: What Does it Say?
15: Israel returned to camp at Gilgal
16: These 5 kings fled and hid in the cave at Makkedah
17: It was told Joshua these 5 kings were found hidden in the
cave
18: Roll large stones against the mouth of the cave and guard
them
19: do not stay there yourselves; pursue your enemies and attack
in the rear, do not allow them to enter their cities for the LORD has delivered

LESSONS: What Does it Mean?

15. It’s good to gather together and asses the situation get feedback  and get back to  work
16. the “fearless” leaders of these cities, so  ready to destroy Israel off the face of the earth find themselves cowards  hiding in a cave.  In times of crises our true character comes out
17. You  can’t hide from God
18-19: Do not be distracted from the task at hand even if you  capture a high value target.  Stay focused on the task at hand.  Pursue those enemies.  Often times I give up the fight when God has called me to complete it.  I may say, “Ah, I have done most of it, I’m out” Do not allow the enemy to re-group, finish the task completely.

APPLICATION: What Does it Mean to me?

15. Do I realize we are in this fight together as Christians? Are we listening to one another  and getting back to work together with a common goal?
16. In  times of crises in my life, what was or is being revealed about my character?  Am I strong and courageous in the LORD, or weak and cowardly? Crises reveals my belief, what has crises revealed regarding my belief?  Has my belief and faith been proven or run from?
17. What causes me to question God sees me?
18-19: Am I living in disobedience because I have been distracted from what God has  called me to do? How have I been distracted from the task at hand?  Have I completed things “mostly” but I don’t want to put the finishing touch on it because…..? Too much
effort? Time? I’m not “feeling” it any longer?  I would rather……?  This distraction over here is more “me” and makes more sense?
