Saturday Snapshot – 2017 Spring Photo Challenge Recap

Spring Photo Challenge recap header

The Cove’s 14-Day Spring Photo Challenge has come to an end. Thanks to everyone who participated!

We wanted to create a challenge that would celebrate the Winter to Spring transition and although Spring hasn’t fully sprung yet, we were impressed by everyone’s originality!

Following is the photo prompt list and all 14 days of our posts.  We hope you enjoy!

Spring Photo Challenge Pin

Day 1 - Photo Prompt: “Fun”

Isn’t this fun! Ruth Graham had quite the sense of humor, and this picture shows it! She tucked this photo of herself into Billy Graham’s suitcase before he left on a trip to share the gospel. . .                                    Photo: A photo of a photo of Ruth Graham located in The Cove Visitors Center.

Fun - Day 1

Day 2 – Photo Prompt: “Sunshine”

Thankful for His new mercies each and every morning.                       Photo: Sunrise off The Training Center deck captured by one of our employees.

Sunshine - day 2

Day 3 – Photo Prompt: “Bloom”

Our Grounds and Maintenance employees work hard to grow and preserve these beautiful blooms at the Training Center and all over the property!                                                                                                                            Photo: Blooms around the first sign to the Training Center parking lot.

Bloom - Day 3
Day 4 Photo Prompt: “Water”

“The words of a man’s mouth are deep waters; The fountain of wisdom is a bubbling brook.” Proverbs 18:4                                                          Photo: The creek just below Chatlos Memorial Chapel.

Water - Day 4

Day 5 - Photo Prompt: “Handwritten”

More ideas can be expressed and retained when one writes by hand. Handwriting scripture is a great way to train your mind to reflect on God’s word.                                                                                                                               Photo: Handwritten scripture by one of our employees.

Handwritten - Day 5

Day 6 – Photo Prompt: “Prayer”

The Lord has heard many prayers lifted from the prayer room in the Training Center. Aren’t you thankful we have a living God who hears our prayers?!                                                                                                                           Photo: The Prayer Room on the 3rd floor of the Training Center.

Prayer - Day 6

Day 7 – Photo Prompt: “Garden”

There are fresh signs of life budding all around us, here at The Cove.    Photo: Fresh buds peeking through in Ruth’s Prayer Garden.

Garden Day 6

Day 8 – Photo Prompt: “Weather”

Asheville, NC can experience a varying range of weather in just one week! Whether rain or shine, the Blue Ridge Mountains that surround The Cove, always reflect the splendor of God’s creation.       Photo: Sunny sky captured from The Training Center parking lot.

Day 9 – Photo Prompt: “Critters”

Make sure to click “play” and turn up the volume for this one!

Day 10 – Photo Prompt: “Book”

This is the Graham family book section at Ruth’s Attic Bookstore in the Training Center. What’s on your bookshelf?                                                 Photo: Taken in Ruth’s Attic Bookstore which is located on the bottom floor of The Training Center.

Book - Day 10

Day 11 – Photo Prompt: “Grass”

“The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.” Isaiah 40:8                                                                                                Photo: Dew on the grass outside the Administration Building, here at The Cove.

Grass - Day 11

 Day 12- Photo prompt: “Renewal”

Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. Psalm 51:10.                                                                                                                             Photo: The Bible on the pulpit in Chatlos Memorial Chapel.

Renewal - day 12

 Day 13- Photo prompt: “Basket”

With the coming and going of Easter, there were bound to be a bundle of baskets around the house. Maybe not like this one, though. Photo: Basket next to the fireplace in the Training Center lobby that has several balls of yarn and a half crocheted blanket.

Basket - Day 13

 Day 14- Photo prompt: “Cross”

Let us celebrate what Christ did for us on the cross, not only at Easter, but every day.                                                                                                         Photo: Cross on the wall of The Training Center dining room.

Saturday Snapshot – Fall Photo Challenge Recap

Fall_Photo_Challenge_Blog_Header_2016

The Cove’s 14-Day Photo Challenge has come to an end. Thanks to everyone who participated!

We wanted to create a challenge that would celebrate the Summer to Fall transition and although there has not been a lot of Fall color to share, we were amazed at everyone’s creativity!

Following is the photo prompt list and all 14 days of our posts.  We hope you enjoy!

Fall_Photo_Challenge_Pinterest_2016

Day 1 - Photo Prompt: “Be Still”

“Be still, and know that I am God.” After a busy summer, this may be a good time to reevaluate our routines. What better place to start then to be still with God and listen to His guidance.
Photo: Kneeler in the Training Center prayer room.

Be Still 9-3(small)

Day 2 – Photo Prompt: “Newspaper”

Tragic story in Asheville’s newspaper today, but father and son’s faith and trust in God is highlighted. After losing his 8-year old son to brain cancer last week (he also lost his wife to cancer in 2014), father shares, “My faith is what’s kept me functioning and as strong as I am. And Malachi’s faith was equally strong.” Please keep Jay Siltzer in your prayers as he walks through this sorrowful time.

Day 3 – Photo Prompt: “Labor”

Happy Labor Day! What are you up to today? Photo: Some of the great people who work at The Cove. We are blessed!

Labor Day 9-5(small)
Day 4 - Photo Prompt: “Verse”

What Scripture has had the most impact in your Christian walk? This is a picture of Will Graham’s Bible and his life verse: John 3:30

Verse 9-6(small)

Day 5 - Photo Prompt: “Tradition”

We asked Gigi Graham (Billy & Ruth Graham’s eldest daughter) a Fall tradition she remembered from her childhood. She shared, “One sweet thing was as my parents got older, for years the first beautiful Fall leaf daddy found, he world pick it up and take it to mama. She preferred that to a red rose.” What Fall tradition do you enjoy now or remember from your childhood?

Day 6 – Photo Prompt: “Throwback”

May 1936, along with 25 other students, Billy Graham (The Cove founder) graduated from Sharon High School. He wrote these words as his yearbook entry: “My hopes and plans for the future is to serve God and do His will as a minister of the Gospel.”

Day 7 – Photo Prompt: “Morning”

The sun reflecting off the clouds at the break of day. The Training Center deck is such a serene place to be early in the morning.

Day 8 – Photo Prompt: “Worship”

“Worship in the truest sense takes place only when our full attention is on God — on His glory, power, majesty, love and compassion.” — Billy Graham

Worship 9-10 (small)

Day 9 – Photo Prompt: “Remember”

“No matter how hard we try, words simply cannot express the horror, the shock and the revulsion we all feel over what took place in this nation on Tuesday morning. September 11 will go down in our history as a Day to Remember. We’ve seen so much that brings tears to our eyes and makes us all feel a sense of anger. But God can be trusted, even when life seems at its darkest.” — Billy Graham at the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C., on Friday, September 14, 2001.

Remembrance 9-11(small)
Day 10 – Photo Prompt: “Morning”

Here at The Cove, we are blessed to begin our days with staff devotions. Will Graham is currently teaching from the book of 2 Samuel. How do you start your mornings?

Morning 9-12(small)

Day 11 – Photo Prompt: “Food”

There are so many good Fall foods and seasonal treats. This is one of our favorites! Our pastry chef is amazing and her Pecan Pie will melt in your mouth! You can find this recipe, by clicking here.  Enjoy! What are your favorite Fall-type foods?

Food 9-13(small)

Day 12- Photo prompt: “Gratitude”

We are grateful for the able hands and willing hearts of those who work on The Cove grounds and maintenance team. We see them as God’s helpers in making things look extra beautiful around here!

Thankfulness 9-14(small)

Day 13- Photo prompt: “Leaves”

We’ve not reached peak leaf season yet, here in Asheville, but every day transformation is taking place right before our eyes. While the beautiful fall colors will be abundant and delight us even more in the weeks to come, the small daily changes in the leaves provide much beauty, too. Don’t let these small glimpses escape your attention!

Leaves 9-13(small)

Day 14- Photo prompt: “Moon”

The moon was full when, a guest here at The Cove, took this amazing photo from the rear Training Center deck last year. This being the last day of our photo challenge, we thought what better time than on the day of the Harvest Moon to share this image.
Space.com shares with us: “Summer’s end is on the horizon, and the arrival of autumn will be heralded by a Harvest Moon on Sept. 16. The term “Harvest Moon” refers to the full moon that falls nearest to the autumnal equinox, which will take place on Sept. 22.”

Saturday Snapshot – Photo Challenge Recap

The Cove’s 14-Day #InTheGardenPhotoChallenge is all done!
We debuted our photo challenge in the Saturday Snapshot post
three weeks ago.

#InTheGardenPhotoChallenge was all about putting a spotlight on the aesthetic and spiritual beauty in and surrounding a garden.

On The Cove’s Instagram (@thecovenc) feed we shared
images from the newly opened Ruth’s Prayer Garden each day.

How it worked: We asked everyone to post one photo per day on their personal Instagram and/or Facebook that followed our daily prompt. Everyone then included the hashtag #InTheGardenPhotoChallenge in their post!

Following are the images we shared, as well as some from others who have joined in and shared from their neck of the woods.

14Day_June_PhotoChallenge_Header_2016
Do you have an Instagram or Facebook account? We would love for you to participate in our 14-Day Photo Challenge beginning June 1.

Our theme is “In The Garden.”  We chose this because we will be celebrating the opening of Ruth’s Prayer Garden (and sharing photos from this garden), right here at The Cove in Asheville, NC, on June 2, 2016!

So, here’s how you can take part in our 14-Day Photo Challenge: Beginning June 1, share one photo per day on your Facebook or Instagram account based on the photo prompts we’ve outlined below and include the hashtag: #InTheGardenPhotoChallenge.

By using the hashtag #InTheGardenPhotoChallenge we’ll all be able to see what each other are posting in that one central search location.

14 Day June Photo Challenge Pinterest and Blog

Don’t worry if you’re not a professional photographer–neither are we!  We will be using both an iPhone and a Canon camera to take our pictures.

Need some ideas of what to share? Post a picture of the flowers blooming in your yard (or your neighbor’s yard), the bumble bees pollinating the blooms in your garden, or a photo of the special place you call your spiritual sanctuary. Each day we will be sharing photos from Ruth’s Prayer Garden.

Here’s a sneak peek of what we will be sharing in our
14-Day Photo Challenge! One of Ruth Bell Graham’s favorite flowers was a rose. What a fitting bloom to commemorate her legacy in Ruth’s Prayer Garden at The Cove.

Similar to many “photo a day” lists, we challenge you to share your best daily snapshots with us – things that inspire you, moments that capture God’s glory, even your own hidden gems.

Here’s how it works:

  • ·         Check out the list for a daily photo prompt.
  • ·         Take your own photo and upload it using your favorite social media with the hashtag #DailySnapshot (so others can find your photos).
  • ·         Check out others’ photos and like, share or comment to be an encouragement to them.

And don’t forget to check out our Daily Snapshots on Instagram and Pinterest to see some hidden gems from The Cove.

Happy picture taking!
