Saturday Snapshot– Winter Activity at The Cove

Can you believe that we are already in February? The weather in Asheville is still cool but it makes for a refreshing walk or cozy time to have a cup of tea. Enjoy some of the pictures from the Cove property this week!

One of the most popular spots for our guests to relax and enjoy a beautiful view is from our deck at the Training Center.

Check out the view for yourself on our live webcam by clicking here.

For our guests that stayed inside, they were able to enjoy one of our tasty desserts and warm up with a delicious cup of coffee.

One of the many sweet decorations found in the Training Center is this lovely hand-crafted birdhouse. The design of the lobby interior was inspired by Ruth Graham’s vision that this space would be an extension of her home.

It looks like only three deer in the meadow below, but can you spot the 4th one?

Have a blessed weekend friends!

Will Graham: Don’t Miss The Cove’s Open House

By Will Graham

There are many reasons why I consider myself a blessed man. In addition to my wonderful family, one of the greatest blessings I have is the opportunity to work every day at a place that I consider a little slice of Heaven on earth.

InsetPhotoChapelEvery morning – well, every morning that I’m not traveling – I climb into my pickup and make my way to The Billy Graham Training Center at The Cove. As I turn off I-40 and enter the gates, I’m greeted by the Chatlos Memorial Chapel’s towering steeple and by stonework built from rocks quarried in North Carolina, as well as many designs and furnishings that remind me directly of my grandmother’s involvement in the development of the property.

Of course, I’m also greeted by the turkeys and deer that share the property with us!

Every day I get to enjoy this blessing, but I understand that my situation is unique and there are many out there who have never had the chance to visit and tour The Cove. It’s for this reason that several years ago we began an annual open house.

This year, our open house is on Saturday, May 11, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., and I would like to cordially invite you and your family to come join us for this free, family-friendly event.

There will be plenty to do while you’re here with us. You can tour the Training Center, including a huge display of memorabilia and gifts given to my grandfather through the years. The Chatlos Memorial Chapel is a particular treat, where you’ll want to check out steel fixtures developed by a local artisan, the prayer room above the sanctuary, and a special exhibit honoring our dear friend, Grammy-winner George Beverly Shea, who just passed away at the age of 104.

Many don’t know this, but we actually share our property with two other groups who are also participating in the open house. Camp Cedar Cliff will offer a taste of summer camp fun with several great activities, including archery, a bounce castle and other inflatables, a climbing wall, a double zipline and face-painting. Illusionist Bill Grimsley will also be on site to perform at 11:30 a.m. and again at 1 p.m. Our friends at 106.9 The Light will also open up their studios for tours. Listeners will be able to meet their favorite on-air personalities and get a great behind the scenes look at the fast-paced world of Christian radio.

Now, if you really want to make a day of it, there’s another option that is available to those that are interested. In addition to the open house, on Saturday, May 11, we’re having a special “Evening at The Cove” event featuring a gourmet prime rib dinner followed by an intimate concert with Christian recording artist Phil Wickham. While the open house is free, there is a charge for this event and pre-registration is required. You can visit www.TheCove.org for more information.

I really hope that you’ll choose to join us on Saturday, May 11, and I pray that you will feel as blessed by your time at The Cove as I do.
