Billy and Ruth Graham prayed The Cove would be a place where people could step away from the daily distractions of life and draw closer to God.

There are many places around our property, inside and out,  where our guests slip away to enjoy quiet time with Him.  Our photos today are ones that guests have shared with us capturing their quiet time spots.

A pastor from South Carolina attending a seminar found this quiet spot on the deck of one of our inns.  The caption he shared: “A state of serenity at The Cove … Speak Lord!”

A young woman from the Chicago, IL area shared this photo of her quiet time with the Lord while on a Personal Spiritual Retreat.  If you like colored pens and sticky notes, we know you’ll love this photo!

Technical difficulties yesterday, so our Saturday snapshot is coming to you on Sunday.

What a weekend we’ve had.  125 military couples from 17 states attended a military marriage retreat led by Dr. Gary Chapman.

We captured this sweet moment during a time of worship on Friday night.

God moved mightily in the marriages of these brave couples this weekend.   Praise Him!

We couldn’t close the month of August out before sharing something that has been in the works for the last few months…

Here’s a hint…

♪♪ Joy to the world!  The Lord is come.  Let earth receive her King! ♪

We know, summer is still here, and Fall is knocking on the door, but we’ve been busy working on Christmas decorations at The Cove!

Why so soon?  Because our handcrafted decorations take hours and hours to create.  We have a very talented woman on our staff named Angie, that is visionary, creator, and team leader for all our Christmas (and other) decorations.  Angie doesn’t just go out and buy decorations and ornaments, as you will see, she uses her God-given gifts to design and create beautiful things.

Here is one of the pieces that she dreamed up and created for Christmas 2015…

Cross made by Angie with vines May 2015

This 12-foot handcrafted cross is made from grape and wisteria vines that Angie and another Cove employee, Susie, harvested off our mountain.  It took them 2.5 hours to gather all the vines!  We’ve included a picture of Angie wrangling the vines below.

At the time this picture of the cross was taken, there were still more lights to be added and a couple other final tweaks.

During the Christmas season, the cross will adorn the large stone wall in the Training Center dining room.

Here’s a picture of Angie gathering vines:

Want to see the cross, as well as the other amazing handcrafted decorations and ornaments that Angie and her team are working on?   Join us for one of our Christmas events in December and see them in person.

“When I look at Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place…” Psalm 8:3

Have we got something special for you today!

The moon was full when, a guest here at The Cove, took these amazing  photos from the rear Training Center deck.

Colleen, an amateur photographer, said she mainly shoots for fun.  This was her first attempt at getting a photograph of the moon.  We would never have guessed!  Well done, Colleen!

Colleen, who was shooting with a Tamron 150-600mm lens on her Nikon D7200, shares the following tips for this kind of photography:
1. Always use a tripod
2. Use a wired or remote shutter release
3. Use a good telephoto lens
4. Darkness helps a lot (Colleen extended thanks to Cove staff member Bill, who turned off the Training Center deck lights for her).

Thank you for sharing with us Colleen!  We hope you’ll come back again and capture more of God’s awesome creation.

College-age students from as far away as California attended an apologetics seminar last weekend, led by Sean McDowell, in which they learned about the truth and evidence behind Christianity.

Many of those in attendance are currently in college, or college is in their near future, so this time of digging into God’s Word and understanding why they believe what they believe was very helpful as they head off to school in the Fall.

Not only did the participants enjoy solid Biblical teaching, but they enjoyed fellowship with one another and lots of good food!

Following are a few pictures to give you a glimpse of their time here.

“As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.” Psalm 42:1

It is so wonderful to see all the deer on our property this time of year.  This week we’ve had a mama and her fawn that greeted some of our staff right outside their office windows.  The others (four of them, but could only get three in the picture!) were caught crossing the road early one morning.

Salt of the earth.  That’s what comes to mind as we share this picture with you today.

Featured are some of our hardworking and talented maintenance and grounds crew alongside a couple of volunteers from Campers On Mission–that’s one of the volunteer’s RV they’re standing near.

Why an RV at The Cove, you may be wondering?  Now, before you jump in your RV and head our way, please understand that we don’t have camp sites or hook-ups for RVers who are attending a conference, retreat, or event at The Cove.  You all are invited to stay in one of our two lovely inns here on property. :)

We do have four designated RV hook-ups that are used by volunteers from Christian RV and camping groups who share their gifts and talents with a variety of Christian organizations around the United States.

The volunteers perform a variety of tasks while at The Cove, but the majority fall under grounds care, building maintenance, laundry/housekeeping, office work, prayer intercession, and tours at our chapel on property.

The two groups that serve The Cove are the SOWERS  and Campers on Mission.  For more information on either ministry, click on the links below.

This photo captures a sweet moment of refreshment and fellowship on the Training Center deck for a group of chaplain volunteers attending a four-day training retreat at The Cove this week.

The chaplains, who minister to the brokenhearted in the aftermath of disasters, are attending training classes to equip them to support the emotional and spiritual needs of those they come across in their work.
